MIDJOURNEY
New York, New York is a new musical that premiered on Broadway in April 2023, inspired by the 1977 film of the same name. The story takes place in 1946 New York and follows a group of artists striving to make it in the big city after World War II.
To promote the musical, a spatial poster was designed to capture the attention of passersby. The poster is positioned at a street corner and extends outward from the wall into the public space, aiming to stand out in the urban landscape and spark curiosity about the new production.
The graphic language developed for the poster extended into additional elements related to the musical, continuing the visual concept established in the original design. The color palette of black, white, and red along with the cut-paper technique, was chosen to reflect the bold, emotional tone of the show.
The starting point for the poster design was the evocative image of a red apple. A timeless symbol of love, desire, and temptation, the apple became the conceptual and visual anchor of the project. Its deep red hue informed the entire color palette, setting an emotional and dramatic tone. The apple’s organic curves influenced the shapes and flow of the illustrations, while its symbolic richness helped shape the overall visual language, creating a cohesive and expressive design that reflects the spirit of the performance.
